The Metro took us to the river Seine, which we walked along to take in the sights and vendors. We then took an early break for lunch in a quaint park.
Jim spoke a little Dutch today. While taking a break in the park at the Louvre the kids spied some people filming something; they looked “famous.” They talked with and took some pics with them. They were Dutch so Jim used a couple phrases he learned last year. Dankjewel Liesbeth!
Since it was sunny and nice, we decided to do a bus tour which is a great way to see a lot of the city and have a quick introduction to the major monuments. We drove down the Champs Elysees, saw Notre Dame, the Arc de Triomph, the Latin Quater and others. We hopped off at the Eiffel Tour for some photos.
We decided to walk half a mile to Rue Cler which is the epitome of a Parisienne neighborhood. Kristi and Jim stayed there 12 years ago and wanted to see it again. It didn’t disappoint. We decided to have a very early dinner there at a cute restaurant. It was great! We had Beef Bourgignon, duck confit, steak, fish and pasta. Did we already say we had the best wine ever? Well, we did again! :)
After a relaxing meal we headed back to the Eiffel Tower. The lines were horrendously long to go up. We decided to for a walk all around and take lots of pics. There were throngs if people in the area near the tower. We think we saw a couple picpockets (we may have been making some assumptions but they did look quite suspicious) and a group of con artists trying to get people to fall for a “which cup is it under gag.” We found this to be quite entertaining ... but felt for the gullible folks.
By 7:00 we were back on the Metro for a sardine-can-like ride back to our neighborhood. A good day but all of us are dead tired again. Of course we had to go to the pastry shop for dessert before we got back into the apartment.
Here’s the scam going down ...
